7 tips to detox your skin and hair

A new year is a chance for a fresh start and this year it’s needed more than ever before. As you get into the swing of your new rituals – whether they’re daily journaling, learning a new skill or hitting the gym – a detox is a great way to get you feeling fresh. Here are our top tips for detoxing your hair and skin.

1. Eat a well-balanced diet

The indulgence of the holiday period might be showing in your mood and on your skin. Now’s the time to cleanse your body, and in turn your complexion and tresses. Fill your diet with antioxidant-rich foods such as lemon, tomato and turmeric. Antioxidants help to defend against free radicals caused by our day-to-day lives, from pollution to inflammation. Add in some alkaline foods too, to give you a boost of essential vitamins and minerals – broccoli, kale and spinach are all high in alkaline!

2. Keep up a regular exercise routine

Not only does exercise release feel-good endorphins, it does wonders for your skin, too. Perspiration while we work out helps to get rid of toxins and impurities in the skin, leaving you with a post-gym glow. You can stay feeling fresh after your workout with our Platinum & Diamonds Scalp Soothing Dry Shampoo. It’s a lightweight formula that uses Precious Powders to absorb excess oil, rather than talc, leaving your hair lightweight and glossy.

3. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

Exfoliation is essential to detoxing your skin. Skin naturally sheds dead cells every 30 days, daily exfoliation helps to remove these, leaving your complexion clear and radiant. Exfoliation also helps to stimulate cell turnover, helping to diminish wrinkles and fine lines. Work an exfoliator into your daily facial skincare routine before you use your usual serums. You can also add a gentle scrub or exfoliating glove to your daily shower, too to buff up and detoxify skin all over your body.

4. Drink plenty of water

Our body is made up of 60% water, so it only makes sense that we should replenish it regularly. Drinking lots of water can help to flush out toxins and help keep us alert and engaged throughout the day. Try to avoid alcohol, coffee and sugary juices, which are dehydrating, instead aim for 2.7 liters of water each day.

5. Skincare routine

As well as your daily skincare routine, you can boost a skin detox with a regular pamper session – sounds good, right?

Start by exfoliating your skin using our Black Baccara Volcanic Cleansing Powder and cleanse with our Glacial White Caviar Precious Cleansing Foam. Then, follow up with our Black Baccara Global Perfecting Velvet Mask. Charcoal acts like a magnet to unclog pores, removing all traces of impurities, while White Clay soothes and smooths skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines. Another weekly detoxifier you can add to your routine is the Black Baccara Dynamic Weekend Peel Booster. It’s formulated with AHAs, Fractioned Hyaluronic Acid and Amino Acid Betaine to exfoliate, hydrate and even skin tone.

6. Amp up your haircare routine

Detoxing your hair is just as important as detoxing your skin, it helps to remove any buildup from the scalp as well as stimulate hair follicles. Our Extreme Caviar Exfoliating Scrub Scalp Mask uses Natural Tahitian Mother-of-Pearl and Coral Sand to remove dead skin from the scalp, while detoxifying cells. Use once a week to keep your scalp and tresses in top condition, allowing your usual haircare products to penetrate even deeper.

If you find your hair is excessively oily, try our Extreme Caviar Purifying Charcoal Shampoo. This purifying formula regulates oil production whilst removing build-up to leave your hair fresh, healthy and shiny.

7. Get plenty of sleep

Lack of sleep can leave us feeling groggy and moody, but it also inhibits the body’s detoxification process. While we sleep, our body gets to work removing toxins, if we don’t get enough shut eye, this process is disrupted and diminished. Aim for 7-9 hours each night to allow your body to recoup. If you’re having trouble drifting off, try to alter your nighttime routine, like limiting screen time before sleep.
